Swimming Mermaid Shows - Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to common questions about our swimming mermaid shows, and some more specifics about how it works.

What types of mermaid shows are available?

We have several different options for mermaid appearances and shows.

  1. Swimming Mermaid Appearance

1-3 beautiful mermaids will come to your event and swim in the pool, interacting with guests and posing for pictures.  This show works great at wineries, wine club events, 40th or 50th birthdays, weddings, luaus, or other events that take place poolside.  We can also swim with guests at pool parties.  We have performed at casinos, winery events, private parties, homes, and golf club pools among other places.  If your event has a pool and needs a lot of life and color and magic, this is the show for you.

Rates are hourly and include a mer-handler for getting in and out of the pool.

2. Land Mermaid Appearance

1-3 mermaid performers will lounge around your event in their gorgeous, hyper realistic tails.   Our beautiful mermaid performers are absolute pros at interacting with guests, weaving magic, telling mermaid stories and reading mermaid fortunes (and misfortunes).  Mermaids can also pour drinks or hand out schwag to your guests.  Our performers are experienced and versatile, so let us know your mermaid mer-magic vision and we will make it happen.

Rates are hourly and include a mer-handler for placement and movement, if needed, to keep the magic alive throughout your event.

3. Swimming Mermaid Kid's Party

Invite a mermaid or two to come to your kid's pool party and absolutely blow their minds.  Kids up to age 7 (and even some adults!) will truly believe that there is a "real live mermaid" in their backyard pool or swim club pool.  We can play Ariel the Little Mermaid or be our delightful Mermaid selves.  Kid's show mermaids can do face painting, magic tricks, glitter tattoos, balloon animals or other poolside activities with the kids before the main event: swimming with your guests and giving mermaid rides to the Guest of Honor.  This is a very magical experience, and one that kids (and parents!) remember for the rest of their lives.

Rates are hourly - we usually recommend a 1 hour visit for up to 15 kids, or 1.5 hours for up to 20 kids.

4. Swimming Mermaid School Lessons

For ages 8-80, we offer swimming mermaid lessons, where you can become a mermaid for a day.  If you or your child have acquired a mermaid tail and want instruction on using it, or if you've simply always wanted to try wearing a tail and swimming with the fish, this is the right show for you.

The hour-long visit will include instructions on the best way to get in and out of your mermaid tail, how to swim in your tail, water safety, and a mermaid makeover with waterproof makeup or glitter, done by a real, professional mermaid.  We'll teach you about mer-culture and tell stories of our oceanic adventures.  We will also bring an underwater video camera and shoot mermaid video of the newly minted mermaids swimming with their new friends.

We can bring up to 3 rental swimming mermaid tails, if you'd like to try it out but haven't decided if you're ready to dive in just yet.   This show can be done at a private or (uncrowded) public pool.

I don't have a pool, can you do dry land shows?

Yes!  We do a lot of dry land appearances, from festivals to weddings to parties and conventions.  Our mermaids are very skilled at interacting with passers-by, and can be situated at your event's entrance for high visibility, or in a hidden corner, for a magical guest discovery.

We can tell fortunes, pass out gifts, sing, or simply greet guests as they arrive.  Mystery parties or adult treasure hunts are our favorite type of event!  Having a mermaid performer help the plot of the party along really gets guests into the spirit of the event.

I don't have a pool but want a swimming show.  Can you perform at a public pool?

We can do swimming mermaid shows at public pools, as long as they aren't overly crowded.  We don't like doing shows at kid-filled amusement park pools on a summer Saturday afternoon - we don't feel like we can guarantee the safety of your guests when we're being mobbed by hundreds of children, and we also can't give your guests the attention we'd like when we keep getting bombarded with hugs and questions from strangers.

However, there are many private or semi-private pools available, and we can go to public pools during off hours with no problem.  Many hotels offer day passes for their pools at very affordable rates.  Swim clubs, tennis clubs, and golf clubs often have pools that can be rented for an afternoon for larger parties.  Community centers are another great place to look.  Or, book a hotel room for the weekend and have a stay-cation with a mermaid visit at whatever time you'd like!

Can I see more videos of your swimming mermaid show before I book?

Yes!  We have lots of mermaid videos on our youtube channel.  Please take a look!

How far in advance do I need to book your mermaids?

We start booking 3 months in advance, but we can often handle requests for just a few days away. To get your first choice of times and performers, it's best to give 3-4 weeks lead-time.

Our busiest times are Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings. Later nights and weekdays tend to be a bit more open.

Call us at (510) 367-4517 or fill out the rate request form to find out our availability.

How much space do you need to swim in your mermaid tail?

We need a pool depth of at least 4 feet and an area no smaller than 20x30 to really swim.  We have done appearances in much smaller pools and even in bath tubs!  For mermaid lessons, we need a pool with a shallow end where the smallest of the new mermaids can stand up in the water comfortably.

A secure dressing area where we can store our gear and personal belongings for the duration of the event is optional, but very much appreciated.

Do you have performer's insurance?

Yes. Fire Pixie is insured for up to $2MM per dancer through Specialty Insurance Agency.  We can provide a certificate of insurance listing your venue as additional insured for no extra charge.

What's the best way to contact you with my questions?
